KTM 950 Oil pump, spring and piston replacement

Posted by on July 31, 2010

While replacing the clutch basket I also looked over the oil pump since I was in there.

Had ordered a few new parts I suspected needed a change:

Spring: 60038026000
Piston: 60038028000
Washer: 0988060121
Lock ring: 0472012010

With the clutch basket removed u can easily see the oil pump but its still quite hard to do any work on it:

The spring is located in here:

A mirror helps

With some swearing and this tool i was able to get the lock ring out:

Really hard to get it out

Old and new spring:

And measurements, new:

New spring length

Old, service limit is 42mm so i guess it was time:

Piston wont come out:

I couldn’t get the spacer and lockring in place with the pump housing in place, so even if better wrenchers then me DONT recommend removing the oil pump housing I did, a lock ring holding the sprocket, a few spacers, 4 bolts and its off, was very carefull when pulling it out:

Couldn't get spring lock ring back

Since I had it off I replaced the piston also and made sure the lockring was secure in its groove:

Spring back in place

Carefully pushed the housing back on the axle, manual says 10 Nm and Loctite so bolted it back:

Manual say loctite and 10Nm

When reassembling the sprocket i ran into a little trouble, the axle had slid in a little but could get a screwdriver into the groove where the lockring sits and pry it out:

All bolted back up

That was all about the oil pump!
