Pyndon Pre-filter

Posted by on June 15, 2010

Since the cam chain replacement is almost done I addressed the next thing.

Replacing that messy foam pre-filter with Pyndon’s kit.

Snorkel had to be cut:

A woodsaw for cutting it

Snorkel cut

Parts of the ridge inside had to be removed, a scalpel and some WD-40 for lubrication worked fine, but I did break the cheap plastic handle:

A scalpel helped with the ridge

Realized later it was better to have the hose clamp rotated so the tightening bolt was on the side:

Base in place

ECU relocated:

Relocated ECU (or CPU or what its called)

The filter assembly:

Assembled

Realized this wouldn’t work:

This wont work

Probably says in the instructions that you need to get everything in place before the filter and stuff but I mainly used the pictures in that:

This wont work

When unbolting it 2 guide rods came off, redid them all with more loctite:

2 guides came loose when disassemble

Still can’t see the breather hose being possible to connect:

No way to get breather hose in place

Quite big gap in the front:

But alot of room in the back

Trimmed away a little more from the snorkel:

Trimmed a little more off

Time to cut out the bottom of the glove box:

Time to hollow out the glove compartment

Didn’t work all to well with the dremel it mostly melted the plastic:

A bit to soft plastic for the grinder to work well

So changed to a saw blade and gloves for protection:

So i went with a sawblade and gloves for protection

Needs some more trimming at the edges but I’m getting there, had to give up for the day:

Progress on gutting glove compartment bottom

After a little use of the prefilter I had it apart to check on the filter, as u can see i relocated the crankcase breather hose and was worried I’d get oil into the filter:

Air filter checkup

But the filter is clean if any oil gets there it gets sucked into the trumpet anyways:
